Pavlus, Pirinelli Have Top Ten Finishes at Terrier Invitational

Wendy Pavlus improved her SLU record and met NCAA qualifying in the 5000 on Friday

Wendy Pavlus trimmed eight seconds off her St. Lawrence record in the 5000 meters and just missed NCAA automatic qualification and Alyssa Pirinelli finished fourth in the shot put and sixth in the weight throw to highlight Saint performances in the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on Friday.

Pavlus and Pirinelli had two of seven top ten performances by Division III athletes in the meet which featured top Division I and club team competitors from throughout the Northeast.

Pavlus finished fifth in a field of 44, running 17:07.04, just missing automatic qualification on the correction for a banked track. Her time is the best in the nation thus far this season. Hillary St. John was 22nd in 18:12.68 and McKayla Nuffer finished 33rd in 18:50.80.Pavlus also ran on the Saint Distance Medley Relay which finished seventh overall and third among DIvision III teams with a time of 12;42.42.  She was joined by Jenna Hulton,Liz Schwennker, and Jacquelynn Lemme.

Pirinelli, who has already met NCAA automatic qualification in the shot and NCAA provisional status in the weight throw and has the best throw in the country thus far in the shot and the third best in the weight, threw 13.72 meters (45-00.25) in the shot to finish 4th in a field of 41. Her throw of 16.44 meters (53-11.25) was sixth in a field of 44.

Liz Schwennker finished 14th in a field of 31 in the 500 meters, running 1:20.34 which met ECAC qualification while Kelsey Rebehn was 22nd in 1:27.82. Jacquelynn Lemme was 34th in 2:22.36 in a field of 77 in the 800 meters while Kiersten LaPorte was 21st in a field of 35 in the 55 hurdles, running 9.16 seconds.

Kylie Morris again flirted with the SLU record in the high jump, finishing tied for 14th with a 1.52 meter jump (4-11.75) while Jessica Venezia was 22nd in the long jump with a 4.64 meter jump (15-02) and finished 11th in the triple jump with a 10.63 meter mark (34-10.5)
