Pirinelli, Pavlus Shine As Saints Finish 2nd in Invitational

Alyssa Pirinelli won both throws, meeting NCAA automatic qualification in the shot and provisional qualification in the weight throw and Wendy Pavlus set the St. Lawrence record in the mile run as the Saint women's indoor track and field team finished second in the St. Lawrence Invitational in the Newell Field House Saturday.
The meet included 14 collegiate teams and also included non-scoring runners from the Ottawa Lions, Cirrus Track Club and several unattached entries in one of the largest meets held in the SLU facility. Rochester won the women's team competition with 143 points with the Saints second with 84 and Brockport third with 71.5 among 13 scoring women's teams.
Pirinelli won the shot with a throw of 14.09 meters (46-2.75), and came back to throw the weight 17.25 meters (56-7.25) improving her own meet record.
Pavlus ran 5:08.13 to win the mile trimming over a half second off the previous best held by Laura Clarke.
The Saint 4x400 relay team of Liz Schwennker, Pavlus, Jacquelynn Lemme and Jenna Hulton finished second in 4:17.85. Hulton was third in the 800 in 2:24.33, Kiersten LaPorte was third in the 55 hurdles in 9:13 while Hillary St. John finished third in the 3000 in 10:45.57 for other top performances by Saint athletes. Jessica Venezia was fourth overall and second among collegiate competitors in the triple jump with a 10.35 meter mark.
Other scoring performances included a fourth by Schwennker and a fifth by Rebehn in the 500, a seventh by Jaquelynn Lemme in the 800, a sixth by Abigail Macbeth in the 1000 and a fifth by McKayla Nuffer in the 3000.
