Pirinelli Wins Two Events in Ottawa

Alyssa Pirinelli won both the shot and weight on Saturday in Ottawa

Alyssa Pirinelli won both throws and Jessica Marini set the St. Lawrence record in the 600 meter run to highlight Saint performances at the Ottawa Superdome Saturday Series to open the 2010 portion of the indoor track and field season.

The meet included top Canadian club program and collegiate athletes as well as the Saints and was run under a unique format in that all races over 60 meters were run as combined events with both men and women in the same race.

Pirinelli threw the shot put 13.87 meters to win that event with Jessica Ingalls second with a 10.02 meter throw and the two Saint throwers went one-two in the weight as well, Pirinelli winning with a 16.83 meter mark. High jumpers Kylie Morris and Megan Nuffer were the other  Saint winners in the event with Morris winning the "A" division with a 1.56 meter jump, just .01 off the SLU record and Nuffer taking the "B" Division with a 1.51 meter jump.

Marini was the second woman finisher in the 600 with a time of 1:40.12 over six seconds faster than Sarah Smith's SLU record set in 1999. Jenna Hulton finished second in the 1000 in 3:04.07 with Jacquelynn Lemme fifth while Wendy Pavlus was second in the 1500 in 4:44.48 and Hillary St. John was second in the 3000 in 11:00.78 with McKayla Nuffer fifth and Chelsea Nuffer sixth.

Emily Palmer was fifth in the 60 hurdles in 10.36 seconds while Liz Schwennker was fifth , Kelsey Rebehn was ninth and Megan Nuffer 11th in the 600. Jessica Venezia was fifth, Morris sixth and Kenda Bush seventh in the long jump.The Saint 4x200 relay  which included Kiersten LaPorte, Corinne Becker, Kayla Twardzyk and Jessica Venezia was second in 1:54.83 and the 4x400 relay with Liz Schwennker, Kelsey Rebehn, Whitney Koch and Megan Nuffer was third.

The Saints will host the St. Lawrence Indoor Invitational on Jan. 23.
