Saints Go 1-2 in Yale Round Robin

Alyssa Smith won her matches against both Bates and Colby at Yale

St. Lawrence University's women's squash team will play four matches in the Amherst Round Robin Saturday and Sunday after going 1-2 in play at Yale to resume post-holiday competition.

SLU will play at Middlebury on Friday before heading to Amherst for the weekend tournament. The Saints will open the Amherst Round Robin with three matches on Saturday, playing at Smith at 9 a.m., Wellesley at Smith at 3 p.m. and Wesleyan at Smith at 6 p.m. They will complete their weekend with a match at Amherst against Tufts at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Saints moved up two spots in the national rankings from 25th to 23rd and will play teams ranked just ahead of them in Tufts (17th) and Wesleyan (22nd).

The Saints lost to 12th-ranked Bates, 8-1, to 21st ranked Colby 8-1 and beat 24th ranked Bowdoin 5-4 at the Yale Round Robin.

Alyssa Smith had the lone Saint win against both Bates and Colby, beating Colby's Kaely Shelpard 3-0 in the eight spot and Bates' Liza Dorison 3-1, also at eight.She also won a 3-2 match in the win over Bowdoin, beating Louis Cannell 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9.

Kendall Harty went to four games against Morgan Maciewicz at nine in the Bates match with the other matches decided by 3-0 scores.

The matches against Colby were highly competitive with Meg North losing 3-2 at three and Jackie Barrett dropping a 3-1 decision at four which included a 12-10 loss to Madeline Dufour and a 14-12 win. Molly Caplan also went to five games at seven, losing the decisive fifth game 12-10. Katie Demakos won the exhibition at 10 3-0.

Meg North won 3-2 at three against Bowdoin's Elizabeth Schetman as Schetman won games one and two, but North tied it with a 12-10 win in game four and took the match with a 11-6 win in game five. Francis Robinson won 3-0 at seven, Smith won her 3-2 match at eight and Kendall Harty won 3-0 at nine to finish out the win for the Saints.
