Nov. 6: The No. 7 St. Lawrence University women's hockey team built a 2-0 lead in the first period against Dartmouth College on Friday evening in Hanover, NH.  However, the Big Green rattled off four unanswered goals and finished 2-of-10 on the power play to defeat the Scarlet and Brown, 4-2, in ECAC Hockey action.

The victory was the first of the season for Dartmouth, which improved to 1-1-1 (1-1-1) while the Saints dropped to 4-3-3 (2-2-0).

"I thought it was a good game.  Dartmouth was able to penetrate to get plenty of quality offensive chances," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells.  "We had solid effort tonight, and we're excited to have an opportunity to bounce back versus Harvard tomorrow."

Both St. Lawrence goals were short-handed tallies and came only 25 seconds apart with less than three minutes to play in the opening period.  First-year Kelly Sabatine took a pass from classmate Michelle Ng and gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at 17:23 when she scored on Dartmouth netminder Mariel Lacina.  Sophomore Vanessa Emond then followed with another short-handed goal at 17:48, with an assist going to classmate Alley Bero.

Needing to swing the momentum in its favor, the Big Green picked up a crucial goal in the final minute of the first stanza to cut their deficit in half, 2-1, after 20:00 minutes.  Amanda Trunzo scored at 19:18 on St. Lawrence goalie Brittony Chartier, with a helper going to Sarah Parsons, for the first Dartmouth goal to cap the first period scoring.

The Big Green, which were outshot 14-11 in the first period, came back with a sound effort in the second period to tie the game at 2-2.  Camille Dumais scored the only goal of the stanza at 4:12 on the power play as the home team earned an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal in the frame.  Sasha Nanji and Sally Komarek were credited with assists on the tying goal.

Though the opening half of the third period was scoreless, the Big Green netted a pair of goals only 2:19 apart midway through the stanza to take control of the game.  Parsons scored the eventual game-winner at 9:26 of the period, with Sarah Toupal earning an assist.  Dumais then scored her second goal of the night on the power play at 11:45 for a 4-2 Dartmouth lead.  Komarek and Katie Horner assisted on the Big Green's insurance goal, which proved to be the final goal of the game.

Mariel finished with 20 saves on the evening including five in the third period to earn the victory while Chartier made 28 saves in the contest.  Ten St. Lawrence penalties proved to be too much for the Saints to overcome against a talented Dartmouth team, as the Big Green finished 2-of-10 with the extra skater.  Meanwhile, the Saints were unable to capitalize on any of their four power play tries (0-for-4).

St. Lawrence will look to salvage a weekend split when they travel to Cambridge, MA tomorrow, Saturday, November 7th to face Harvard.  The puck is set to drop on the Saints and Crimson at 4:00pm.
