Saints Climb With Sunday Round at Dartmouth Invitational

A second look at the Hanover Country Club golf course was worth 23 strokes to St. Lawrence University's women's golf team and lifted the Saints from 17th place after round one of the Dartmouth Women's Invitational to 13th and third among Division III schools in the 20-team field.
The Saints shot 344 on the 5807-yard, par-72 course on Saturday, but had two rounds in the 70s and no score higher than 82 in their second 18 holes on Sunday to make a four-spot jump in the team standings with a best-of-four score of 321 for a 665 total. Towson University won the tournament with a 625 total with Boston College second at 627 followed by Brown, Fairfield, Dartmouth, Albany and Siena. Amherst and Williams tied for the top spot among Division III entries at ninth with 656 totals.
The Saints' Sunday round of 321 was the sixth best team total for the second day and just 11 strokes behind Boston College's 310 which was the best round of the tournament.
Alair Muzzatti led the Saints with back-to-back rounds of 82 for a 164 total and a tie for 37th in the 103-player field. Senior Kristin Berretta shot 86 on Saturday and had one of two 79s on Sunday to finish at 165 for a tie for 40th while sophomore Melissa Snizek and rookie Aimee Caligiore tied for 57th with Snizek shooting 89-79 for a 168 total and Caligiore shooting 87-81 for her 168. Cait Cunningham was the fifth Saint golfer and trimmed seven strokes off her Saturday rounds with a 93 on Sunday to finish with a 193 total.
The Saints will play in the Mount Holyoke Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
