Oct. 31: The No. 6 St. Lawrence University women's cross country team had five runners finish in the top-10 at the 2009 Saratoga Invitational on Saturday afternoon, giving the Saints the team title with an impressive 21 points.  Junior Wendy Pavlus won the event by .5 seconds over sophomore teammate Jenna Hulton.

Pavlus won the race with a time of 17:24, while Hulton followed only a half of a second later in second position.  Senior Johannah Ludington was third overall out of 140 competitors.  Joining the Saints' front trio were junior Megan Derby and senior Alexis Nuffer, who recorded career-best times.  Derby was 5th overall in 18:04, while Nuffer delivered a key race, finishing 10th overall in 18:30.

"Wendy (Pavlus), Jenna (Hulton) and Johannah (Ludington) ran three of the fastest times ever run on the esteemed Saratoga Park course, and Megan (Derby) and Alexis (Nuffer) had career best performances to lead us to one of the most impressive team performances in St. Lawrence history," said women's head cross country coach Mike Howard.  "To have our chase pack of runners within a 35 second time game is a huge boost for us as we set our sights on the NCAA Atlantic Regional."

Sophomore McKayla Nuffer (18:39) and senior Hillary St. John (18:40) narrowly missed out on the scoring for the Scarlet and Brown, as they each earned top-15 finishes in 12th and 13th overall.  Junior Katrina Loignon was 31st overall with a time of 19:38 while classmate Liz Atwood was 35th (19:51).

Also representing St. Lawrence in the 2009 Saratoga Invitational were first-year students Erikka Nuffer (38th, 19:53) and Andrea Maynard (43rd, 20:02), sophomores Abbie MacBeth (46th, 20:04) and Elizabeth Edwards (69th, 20:41) and rookie Megan Nuffer (70th, 20:42).
