Saints Claim Category in “Fall Team Challenge”

The Saints won the "School Club" category in Concept 2's "Fall Team Challenge".

Jan. 26:  The St. Lawrence University women's crew team participated in Concept 2's "Fall Team Challenge" from September 15 through October 15, 2011 in preparation for the upcoming racing season.  The group's hard work paid off, as it was the top team in the "School Club" category, logging a total of 1,239,504 meters over the one-month span.

The Saints participated in the challenge in addition to their regularly scheduled workouts.  The "Fall Team Challenge" featured 311 teams over nine different categories.

"It was a lot of hard work and took dedication to put in the time and effort required to erg 100,000 meters each in a month, especially in addition to early morning workouts and our other cross training," explained senior Jeannine Condon, who captained the challenge for St. Lawrence.  "We managed to succeed, and it's a great feeling to have pulled through as one of the top performing clubs. We really had a great season which can hopefully carry us into an even stronger spring as we welcome back all of our teammates who were abroad."

"They really took this challenge on of their own accord.  Every fall, they augment their on-the-water training and strength program with various dryland workouts.  This year, though, they wanted to take on something with a little more structure, something that they could work toward collectively," said St. Lawrence Director of Rowing Nick Hughes.  "As one can tell from their result, rowing over 1.2 million meters, they really threw themselves into it.  It's doubly impressive given that we had a large contingent abroad at the time.  Winning the challenge is a testament to the industry and commitment of our squad."

The women's crew team will continue working towards its 2012 season opener on March 31 when the Saints row against RIT in Rochester, NY.
