Nick Hughes

Nick Hughes has been the Director of the St. Lawrence University rowing program since its inception in 1999 and led the transition from club to varsity status. Hughes' guidance has been instrumental in establishing the Saints as one of the premier crew programs in the East. Hughes directed St. Lawrence to the NCAA Championships for the third straight season in 2010.
Hughes' 2010 Saints team earned their third consecutive Liberty League title, a second place finish at the NYS Championships and a sixth place finish at ECAC's. His team climbed to as high as No. 4 in the national polls before closing the year at No. 7 in Division III rowing.
Hughes and his team were rewarded for all of their efforts, as the Varsity Eight boat earned Liberty League 'Crew of the Year" honors, while Hughes and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year by the conference for the third consecutive year.
In 2008, Hughes guided the Saints to their first ever Liberty League Championship, where the Varsity Eight boat took the gold medal for the first time in program history. The team's performance throughout the season helped them earn their first ever NCAA bid, where the Saints' IV placed second in the petite final of the Varsity Eight race, while the 2V placed fourth in the third final.
Hughes, a 1994 graduate of Dartmouth College and a four-year member of the men's lightweight crew team, was the assistant coach of boys crew at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield Ma. and has worked as a product manager for Seligman Financial Services.
