Sophomore Katherine Edgerton led the Saints with a game-high 22 points Friday.

Feb. 5:  After falling to conference opponent Vassar College, 50-46 earlier this season, sophomore Katherine Edgerton racked up a game-high 22 points, to help the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team make a nice comeback to drop the Brewers, 64-39 in Poughkeepsie, NY Friday.

The Saints improve to a 13-6 (5-4) overall record, while the Brewers fall to a 7-11 (3-5) mark.

Edgerton shot 8-of-13 from the floor, while Casey Capello supported her classmate with 19 points off 7-of-12 shooting.  Along with their impressive performance from the field, both sophomores also shot perfectly from the free-throw line.  Capello and rookie Erica Spera led the Saints with seven rebounds a piece, while sophomore Iris Santoni earned a team-high four assists and a game-high four steals.  The Saints were particularly strong from behind the arc, shooting over 54%.

Vassar's Emily Haeuser and Tori Chaltain led their team with 10 points each, both earning game-highs with Chaltain tallying eight rebounds and Haeuser totaling four steals.  Kristyn Tempora also had a nice game, finishing the contest with a game-high five assists.

Although the Brewers were able to take an early lead in the first half, the Saints managed to pull ahead at the 15:33 mark (7-6).  Santoni then sunk an easy jump shot to spark a 17-0 run for St. Lawrence.  Edgerton, Capello, and Santoni were key, shooting solidly from beyond the arc.  With 6:47 on the clock, Spera hit another three-pointer to put her team up 31-11.  Vassar was able to work its way back to within 17 points of the Saints, thanks mainly to Tempora and Chaltain who posted a combined eight points.  However, Edgerton responded with a nice layup to give St. Lawrence a 21 point advantage, its largest lead of the half with 1:21 left to play.  Although the Brewers cut the deficit to 17 again, consecutive free-throws from Capello secured the Saints 21 point lead as the half came to a close (44-23).

The Saints continued to grab momentum in the second frame, but seemed to struggle from the three-point mark.  Roughly eight minutes into the half, St. Lawrence increased their lead to 27 points with strong shooting from Edgerton and Stanton.  Edgerton and Santoni then hit back-to-back layups with 11:52 on the clock to put their team ahead, 62-31.  Sophomore Nyasha Miller followed suit before both teams hit a wall, going scoreless for almost the next five minutes.  In fact, the Saints were unable to find the basket again for the remaining ten minutes.  Vassar was able to break the streak as Haeuser tipped one in from underneath to bring her team back within 29 points of the Scarlet and Brown with 5:14 left in regulation.  Then solid foul shots from the Brewers allowed them to cut the deficit to 25 with three minutes on the clock, but the Saints held on to their 64-39 victory.

St. Lawrence scored 27 points off turnovers Friday, while the Brewers' earned four, and posted 32 points in the paint, compared to Vassar's 24.  St. Lawrence also racked up 18 second chance points, while Vassar accumulated three, and posted eight fast break points, compared to the Brewers' two.

St. Lawrence sees more conference action tomorrow, February 6th, as they take on Rensselaer for the second time this season.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm in Troy, NY.
