The Saints won the Liberty League Tournament in both 2008 and 2009.
Katherine Edgerton '12 has emerged as a rising talent for the Saints.

The St. Lawrence Women's Basketball program has a rich tradition of excellence.  The history of the team is full of success stories both on the court and in the classroom.  Over the past 11 seasons, the Saints have attended seven NCAA DIII National Tournaments and boast an overall record of 257-72 .  They advanced all the way to the National Championship game in 2001-02.  But the Saints have also carried great pride in the classroom.  In the last seven years, St. Lawrence Women's Basketball players have earned 35 Academic All-Conference awards from the Liberty League, and in 2008, the Saints finished third in the nation with a team grade point average of 3.53, earning a National Award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Saint's Head Coach Dan Roiger inherited in 2008 a team that has been very successful in the Liberty League.  Since 2006, the team has compiled a 55-17 league record, and has finished either first or second every year.  "One of my goals here at St. Lawrence University," says Coach Roiger, "is to continue the tradition of excellence that the Saints have both on the court and in the classroom."

Coach Roiger wants to build the St. Lawrence Women's Basketball program upon three pillars.  First, he wants to have good people who are good citizens and students at the same time.  "I want players who will represent our program and University with class and pride in our accomplishments," he said.   Second, the Saints will be composed of players who are passionate about the game of basketball and also very competitive.  "I want players who love to play hoops and have an innate drive to be successful."  Lastly, he wants his team to have strong team chemistry where each player feels like they have a dozen big sisters.  "We genuinely care about one another and just want to win; we are extremely unselfish," Coach Roiger commented.  "And I want each player to feel appreciated for their contributions to the team, no matter what those contributions are."

Coach Roiger is bringing a challenging style of basketball from Northland College, where he was twice named the UMAC Coach of the Year while leading his team to a 32-10 conference record the last three seasons, and winning a conference championship and a tournament championship.  Expect the Saints to play a fast-paced transition offense that relies a lot on the reads of motion offense while playing pressure defense.  Coach Roiger's teams have traditionally played very intelligently, being well prepared for anything their opponents throw at them.  "I take pride in having our team prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally for every game," he said.

St. Lawrence University brings a unique combination of excellent academics, excellent athletic facilities, and a strong belief in the role sports can play in a college educational experience.  With 32 sports, the St. Lawrence campus has hundreds of athletes on campus, and the fitness center, gym facilities, and the two fieldhouses offer athletes a place to be active year round.  "This is the type of school where we can recruit the very best players," says Coach Roiger.  "We have outstanding academics, a beautiful campus with great academic and athletic facilities, and a fun, vibrant campus atmosphere.  Any player will naturally be attracted to the opportunities that St. Lawrence University has for them both as a student and an athlete.  Recruiting top players and winning at a national level is certainly within the realm of possibilities for the Saints!"

Saints basketball.  A great place to have outstanding experiences.  Both on and off the court.
