Dan Roiger
Head Women's Basketball Coach
Roiger and the Saints have compiled an overall record of 58-18 (.763) over the past three years, with a 36-8 (.818) record in the Liberty League. They are the only team to make the playoffs all three seasons and have the best record of the conference opponents over that span.
In the 2011-12 season, Roiger was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year as he guided his team to a perfect 16-0 record in the league, the first in its history, with an overall record of 21-5. The team also set a new University record by winning 18 games consecutively.
At St. Lawrence, Roiger has coached eight All-Conference players, two All-Conference Rookie team players and one Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, 16 players were named to the All-Academic team as he continues to recruit outstanding student-athletes who also make a difference on the court.
Prior to joining the St. Lawrence staff, Roiger was the head coach at Northland College (WI) for five years where he led his team to the playoffs four times and won one regular season championship and one tournament championship. Named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009, he led his 2008-09 team to 19 wins, the most in the program's history as an NCAA school.
Among the numerous All-Conference players at Northland, he also coached a Player of the Year and two Freshmen of the Year. His team also excelled in the classroom, as it earned a National Top 25 Academic Award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. He was an assistant coach at Carleton College (MN) for five years prior to Northland.
Roiger teaches within the Sports Studies and Exercise Science program and is involved in the campus community on three committees. In addition to his responsibilities with game management throughout the year, he also provides individual basketball workouts for high school level athletes. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Roiger earned his
master's degree at Madison and also earned a BA in education from
Mankato State University. He resides in Canton with his wife, Shelly Roiger, who is the Saints volleyball head coach, and his three boys, Joey, Sam, and Zadok.
