Saints Hold End-of-the-Season Banquet

The 2011 St. Lawrence University Volleyball Team

Dec 6:  The St. Lawrence University volleyball team held its end of the season banquet and Christmas party on Sunday where individual honors were awarded, as well as recognition of all team members for their outstanding contributions throughout the season.

The Class of 2012, made up of Katherine Pierce, Ali Limoncelli, Darcy Buckingham, Nyasha Miller, Liz Grogan and Marta Johann, is one of the strongest to come out of the Saints program. As a collective group, the seniors totaled 1,792 sets played, 3,061 kills, 369 assists, 3,586 digs, 351 service aces and 571 blocks.  The junior and sophomore classes were also recognized for their strong defensive and setting contributions, while the first-year students were recognized for the immediate impact they have had on the program.

Individual awards, which were voted on by the team members, were awarded first-year student Katy Litka and Miller.  Litka earned Most Improved Player for her achievements throughout the season.  Despite missing the earlier portion due to an injury, Litka stepped foot on the court in mid-September and didn't look back.  She fought hard to earn a spot on the court and continued to improve every day.

Miller earned Teammate of the Year for her incredible impact on the team both on and off the court.   She will be known as one of the best players to put on a St. Lawrence volleyball uniform and one of the most loved by her teammates.  She has shown outstanding leadership as a two-time captain and will be missed immensely by her teammates and the Saints coaching staff.

During the banquet the team exchanged ‘Secret Santa' gifts true to the Christmas spirit.  The evening came to a close with season highlight video created by assistant coach Melissa Anderson.
