Saints Fall to Violets in Five Game Championship Match at NY Regional Tournament

Nov. 1: After taking down RIT 3-1 earlier in the day, the St. Lawrence University volleyball team played their way to a five game Championship match against #1 regionally ranked NYU Sunday, at the NY Regional Tournament in Ithaca, NY. The Scarlet and Brown put up a tough fight, but the Violets secured the win 3-2.
The Saints came out strong against the top ranked Violets, winning the first two sets of the match 25-19 and 25-23. NYU pressured the Saints in the next three games, playing well at the net. The Violets earned the tournament win with scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 15-7 in the last three sets of the match.
Sophomore Nyasha Miller grabbed 17 kills, and 15 digs, while senior Jessica Lucky hit 10 kills and a high 17 digs. Junior Abigail Rose racked up 39 assists, 20 digs, and nailed 3 service aces to help the Saints pressure the Violets.
In their earlier match against RIT, the Saints and the Tigers fought point for point in game one, but the Scarlet and Brown grabbed the win in a tight 27-25 battle. The Tigers kicked up their game in the second set, defeating the Saints in another close 25-22 match. Both teams played two more evenly matched games, but the Saints pushed through with two wins scoring 25-23 and 25-20.
Miller racked up another 17 kills for the Scarlet and Brown, as well as 13 digs and 5 service aces. Lucky nailed 15 kills and another 15 digs, while Buzza earned 8 kills. Rose accumulated a high 47 assists for the Saints.
St. Lawrence, now maintaining an impressive record of 28-6, heads on the road next weekend, Nov. 6-7 to compete in the Liberty League Tournament at Vassar College.
