Clarkson Sweeps Saints 3-0 in Liberty League Opener

Sept. 18: The St. Lawrence University volleyball team lost its 2012 conference opener on Tuesday night, as Clarkson University topped the Saints 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 in Potsdam, NY.
The victory moves the Golden Knights to 10-3 (1-0), while St. Lawrence falls to 4-10 (0-1). First-year students Rebecca Doser and Lexi Brown had six kills each for the visitors, while junior co-captain Katie Prue led the Scarlet and Brown with 11 digs. Clarkson rookie Victoria Kirkemo had a brilliant outing, posting 15 kills and only three errors, while Lani Durio had 40 assists.
Though St. Lawrence posted a few brief runs in the match, Clarkson controlled the pace with its serve. The Golden Knights finished with five aces overall, but the consistent pressure that Clarkson placed on St. Lawrence kept the Saints off balance all evening.
Co-captains Anna Kassab (13) and Jenna Street (10) led St. Lawrence in assists, while Aisha O'Connor and Mariah Dignan combined for 11 digs as well.
The Saints will continue Liberty League play this weekend in a round robin hosted by RIT. St. Lawrence will face Vassar and Bard on Friday and the hosting Tigers on Saturday.
