Saint Women Top Bears, 164-110; Men Fall Short, 135-143

Russ Newton '12 earned three first-place victories on Saturday against Potsdam.

Jan. 21:  The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team used 11 individual wins to propel itself to a 164-110 victory over Potsdam State on Saturday afternoon in the Augsbury Natatorium.  The Bears, however, slipped past the men's team by the score of 145-134. 

Senior Chasity Barcomb, junior Casey Abribat, and sophomores Elizabeth Canne and Natalie Dellinger were double-winners for the Saints, while seniors Molly Lunn and Brynn Hagen, and first-year student Samantha Moffitt also earned individual victories. 

Barcomb earned victories in the 1 Meter and 3 Meter dives, including a career-best 222.98 in the 3Meter.  Abribat earned victories in the 100-back (1:04.97) and the 200-back (2:18.34), while Canne took home the 100-breast (1:12.34) and the 200-breast (2:36.34) and Dellinger won the 100-free (58.18) and the 100-fly (1:02.10). 

Lunn and Hagen swam their season-bests in the 1000-free (11:25.85) and the 200-free (2:04.69), respectively, while Moffitt won the 50-free (26.24).  Moffitt teamed up with Abribat, Canne and Dellinger to earn first in the 400 medley with a time of 4:18.86. 

On the men's side, senior Russ Newton earned three victories to lead the Saints, while classmate Andrew Hayes, junior Jason Dutra and first-year student Billy Moran were each double-winners. 

Newton swam a season-best in the 1000-free (10:11.63), and added victories in the 500-free (5:00.05) and the 200-IM (2:09.19).

Hayes won the 200-free (1:49.47) and the 200-back (2:01.90), while Dutra swam a season-best in the 100-back (55.59) and also won the 100-fly (58.02).  Moran took the 1 Meter (184.88) and 3 Meter (190.13) dives, and 400-free relay team also earned a first place finish.
