Russ Newton '12 earned two individual victories against Nazareth on Saturday.

Oct. 29:  The St. Lawrence University men's and women's swimming and diving teams suffered losses to a talented Nazareth team on Saturday evening in Rochester, NY.  The men's team (0-3) was outscored 147-135, while the women's team (1-2) fell by the score of 153-135.  The Saints return home to take on RIT on November 5 in a dual meet slated to begin at 1:00PM. 

Men:  147-135

Seniors Russ Newton and Andrew Hayes led the Saints with two individual victories each.  Newton won the 800-free (9:18.32) and the 400-free (4:36.34), while Hayes won the 200-free (2:06.97) and the 200-back (2:23.25).  Junior Jason Dutra earned a first-place finish in the 100-free with a time of 56.46.    

First-year student Billy Moran was also impressive, earning victories in the 1 and 3 meter dives.  Moran, along with senior diver Alex Smith, recorded 30 total points for the Saints off the boards.       

Women: 153-135

Sophomore Katharina Weidhausser posted two first-place finishes to lead the women.  She handily defeated her opponents in the 200-fly (2:34.55) and the 400-free (4:51.98), and swam the third leg of the winning 200-medley relay team.    

Senior Molly Lunn and first-year student Samantha Moffitt also earned victories for the Saints.  Lunn took the 800-free with a time of 10:12.31, while Moffitt won the 100-fly with a time of 1:08.91.  Moffitt also posted second-place finishes in the 50-free (27.97) and the 100-free (1:01.24), finishing less than half a second behind in the 50, and two hundredths of a second behind in the 100.  Nazareth's Rachael Phipps took first in both of those events, breaking her school's record in the 50-free (27.54) and recording a time of 1:01.22 in the 100-free.

Junior Casey Abribat and sophomore Elizabeth Canne joined Weidhausser and Moffitt to win the 200-medley relay in a time of 2:10.50.  

Senior Chasity Barcomb took first in both the 1 and 3 meter diving events, while junior Emily Endieveri finished in second. The two divers gathered 30 points for the Saints off the boards.
