Saints Down Thoroughbreds in Home Opener

Katharina Weidhausser '14 posted two first-place finishes against Skidmore Friday night.

Oct. 29:  The St. Lawrence University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each improved to 2-0 with a solid performance against Skidmore College in their first home meet of the season.  Both Saint teams posted first place finishes in eight events, the men earning a 124-102 victory and the women earning a 122-99 victory. 

"We did a nice job at our first home meet this season," said Head Coach Bob Clemmer.  "We had some great individual wins and looked strong as we finished each race."

Men 124-102

Seniors Rob Sibley and Jarred Pellerin each earned two individual victories.  Sibley won the 100 free (50.96) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.36), while Pellerin won the 1000 free (10:27.70) and the 200 fly (2:09.75). 

Sibley also joined Andrew Hayes, Jason Dutra and Luke Peleggi in the 400 Medley relay where they posted a first place finished with a time of 3:54.72, over 20 seconds faster than their Skidmore opponents. 

Hayes and Dutra also recorded individual victories, Hayes winning the 200 free (1:53.24) and Dutra winning the 50 free (22.99). 

Women 122-99

Three Saints earned victories in two of their events.  Senior Katie Kozminski won the 50 free (26.26) and the 100 free (57.15), sophomore Casey Abribat won the 200 IM (2:18.44) and the 200 back (2:19.12), and first-year student Katharina Weidhausser won the 200 free (2:03.29) and the 200 fly (2:20.42). 

Junior Chasity Barcomb posted a first place finish off the diving boards, winning the 3 meter with a score of 182.85 and placed second in the 1 meter with a score of 166.10. 

The Saints will return to action tomorrow, October 30th, when they host the Nazareth College Golden Flyers.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:00 in the Augsbury Natatorium.
