St. Lawrence Falls to Hartwick in Men's and Women's Events

Junior Hannah Grimes took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke against Hartwick Saturday.

Jan. 16:  The St. Lawrence University swimming and diving team fell to Hartwick Saturday in Oneonta, NY, in both the men's and women's events.  The Saint men fall to a 2-3 record, while the women move to a 3-2 mark.

The women kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, finishing with a time of 2:02.00.  First-year Casey Abribat, junior Hannah Grimes, senior Abby Lynch, and junior Katy Kozminsky composed the relay team. 

The men followed suit in the same event, finishing with a time of 1:40.67.  Senior Chris Woolston, senior Stephen Dally, first-year Jason Dutra, and first-year Mark Obernesser made up the team.

Woolston took first in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing three seconds in front of Hartwick's Eric Goble with a time of 55:48 and swam to a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:49.41.  Both Grimes and Dally also earned first place finishes in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.  Grimes earned a time of 1:15.61, while Dally finished in 1:05.73.   Junior Rob Sibley finished roughly a second behind teammate Dally, with a time of 1:06.55, as first-year Maria Anselmi took second behind Grimes with a time of 1:19.32.   

Kozminsky and Lynch took third and fourth in the 50 Yard Freestyle, finishing neck and neck with times of 26:64 and 26:87.  Lynch also took second in the 100 Yard Freestyle, finishing with a time of 57:20.  Sophomore Katie Spakowski earned bronze in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 11:55.50, while sophomore Molly Lunn took second in both the 400 Yard IM and the 100 Yard Butterfly. 

First-year Elias Schoen followed suit in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 56:96, while sophomore Russ Newton took third in the 500 Yard Freestyle.   

First-year Chasity Barcomb and sophomore Meg Powers took first and second in the 3 Mtr. Diving Competition with scores of 143.40 and 140.0.  Barcomb also finished second in the 1 Mtr. Competition with a score of 150.80, while Powers took third, scoring 145.55.

The Saints ended the meet on a high note, winning both the men's and women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relays.  Sophomore Emily Peck, Abribat, Spakowski, and Grimes finished in 1:53.45, while Dutra, first-year Alex Root, junior Jared Pellerin, and Newton finished with a time of 1:36.85.

The Saints will race against conference opponent  Hamilton College, Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 pm in Clinton, NY.
