Five Saints Earn All-Conference Honors
May 10: Five members of the 2011 St. Lawrence University softball team were awarded All-Conference honors for their performance throughout the season. Sophomore Chelsea Cavellier and first-year student Caroline Kieltyka were Second Team choices, while senior Rachel Duffany and first-year students Rebecca Allen and Leslie Stratton were given Honorable Mention status.
Cavellier, who took on the catching role this season, concluded the season with a .271 batting average, tallying 19 hits in 70 at bats. The Dexter, NY native was third on the team in doubles and was tied for second in walks with eight. Cavellier also earned All-Conference academic honors.
Kieltyka added a solid bat in the Saints' line-up in her rookie season as she led the team in hits with 26 in 88 at bats for a .295 batting average. The New Britain, CT native also led the team in runs and total bases, with 16 and 44, respectively. Tied for the most home-runs this season (3), she also tallied a team-best 13 walks and was second in runs scored with 16.
Duffany, one of the team's captains, earned Honorable Mention status on the mound. She logged 103.1 innings pitched in her last season with the Scarlet and Brown. The Watertown, NY native led the Saints' pitching staff with 48 strike outs and an ERA of 3.32. She also helped St. Lawrence offensively as she posted 14 hits in 67 at bats.
Allen concluded her rookie season with a .207 batting average as she had 18 hits in 87 at bats. The Victor, NY native was tied for most home-runs this season with three and tied at second in the runs batted in category with 13.
Stratton started in every game of her rookie season and added a consistent bat in the Saints' lineup. The Bedford, NH native was fourth on the team in batting average with .278 as she had 25 hits in 90 at bats. She led the team in runs scored (17) and doubles (6), while accumulating 36 total bases, good for second on the team.
