Tara FreemanBecky Allen '14 hit her second homerun of the season against Potsdam on Tuesday.
The Saints fall to 8-12 on the season (0-2 Liberty League), while the Bears move to 9-16 (0-9 SUNYAC).
In the opener, Potsdam scored four runs in the first three innings while St. Lawrence had difficulties stringing its hits together. The Saints' first run came in the fourth inning as first-year student Caroline Kieltyka reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. It was not until the sixth inning when the Saints were able to generate some offense. Senior Rachel Duffany hit a double to right center that plated Kieltyka with no outs to bring the score to 5-2. Potsdam pitcher Brittany Pawlowski, however, was able to get out of the inning and the Bears escaped with the 5-2 win.
Duffany was credited with the loss, giving up five runs off of nine hits. She led the Saints offensively with two of the team's eight hits in the first game and the lone RBI. Kieltyka scored both of St. Lawrence's runs as she went 1-for-4. Five other Saints registered one hit apiece.
In the nightcap, the Saints gathered six hits, including a 2 RBI homerun over the left field fence by first-year student Becky Allen in the second inning. The Bears, however, produced a steady offense, tallying eight runs off of 15 hits. Allen recorded her second hit of the game when she doubled to left center in the sixth inning to score Kieltyka, however the Saints were unable to further narrow their deficit.
Allen finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Four other Saints finished with one hit apiece. The Saints stranded 15 baserunners over the two games. Sophomore Liz McGinley suffered the loss on the mound.
The Saints will look to snap their four-game losing streak tomorrow as they travel to Plattsburgh State to take on the No. 13 Cardinals. The double-header is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
