Three Saints Garner All-Conference Honors
May 7: St. Lawrence University juniors Molly Swan and Amy Atkins and sophomore Meg Goodemote have each earned 2009 All-Conference honors from the Liberty League. Swan was named a First Team infielder for the first time in her career, while Atkins was voted to the conference's Second Team as an outfielder. Meanwhile, Goodemote earned Honorable Mention status as an outfielder.
Swan has been a staple in the Saints' line-up since her first season with the Scarlet and Brown and served her first season as a captain in 2009. The Clifton Park, NY native was a Second Team infielder last year, and remained one of the team's primary offensive weapons in her third season. She led the team with 17 RBI's, six doubles, two triples, a .371 on base percentage and a .430 slugging percentage. Swan, who recorded 59 put outs at shortstop, also scored nine runs while hitting .314.
Atkins had a breakout season for St. Lawrence, as she contributed both offensively and defensively for the Saints. The Westerlo, NY native started in all 30 games, leading the team in batting average (.329), hits (28), and doubles (6). Atkins also played sound defense for the Scarlet and Brown in the outfield, where she posted a .956 fielding percentage.
Finally, Goodemote showed both her durability and versatility during her second season. The Queensbury, NY native flashed offensive prowess at the leadoff spot, where she accumulated 20 hits and 11 runs including three extra base hits. Goodemote was also solid in right field and on the mound, finishing with an .860 fielding percentage.
The University of Rochester's Lindsay Macaluso earned the Liberty League's "Player of the Year" award, while teammate Beth Ameno claimed the "Pitcher of the Year" honor. The Yellowjackets' coaching staff, led by head coach Michelle Burrell, was named "Coaching Staff of the Year" while Rochester's Kim Grimes was named the "Co-Rookie of the Year" with Skidmore's Sam Crose.
