Oct. 29: St. Lawrence University's riding team had 15 event wins and a host of second and third place finishes in a pair of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region II opening weekend shows hosted by Geneseo, but the wins didn't always fall in the right places from a team scoring standpoint.

The Saints finished third in Saturday's show and were second on Sunday, but have plenty of time to gain ground in the race for regional high point team. Syracuse won Saturday's show with 38 points with Cazenovia second with 34 and the Saints third with 32 and Cazenovia was Sunday's winner with 42 points followed by the Saints with 37 and Geneseo with 34.

A number of newcomers had successful opening weekend performances for the Saints led by first year Katie Tyler, who was high point rider on Saturday with wins in open equitation over fences and open on the flat, and was in a ride-off for reserve high point rider on Sunday after finishing first over fences and second on the flat.

Other newcomers who won on Saturday included Mackenzie Alderman in intermediate fences, Alyssa Bokor in intermediate on the flat and Sarah Buck in novice on the flat. Senior Molly Coryer was first in intermediate fences, sophomore Gwen Bailey won her class of novice fences, sophomore Emily D'Alessandro won in open on the flat, senior Mary Donohue won in novice on the flat and senior Becky Walsh won her class of advanced walk-trot-canter.

Emma Sutphen was second in intermediate fences, Anna Whalen was second in novice fences, Hannah Chute was second in intermediate flat while Michelle Harazim and Lauren Tannenhaus took seconds and Emma Jones a third in novice on the flat. Ali Hiple was second in advance walk-trot-canter, Klare Nevins finished second in beginner walk-trot-canter and Anna Kowalczyk was second in walk-trot.

Joining Tyler in the winner's circle on Sunday were Sutphen, who won her class of intermediate fences, Bokor in intermediate flat, Alderman in novice flat and Nevins in beginner walk-trot-canter.

Chute was second in intermediate on the flat with Donohue and Buck second and Harazim and Grace Segrave third in novice on the flat. Anna Haron and Walsh took seconds in advanced walk-trot-canter while Khoee Tyner and Kowalczyk took seconds in walk-trot. D'Alessandro was third in open flat and Amelia Heroux took third in beginner walk-trot-canter.

The Saints will ride at Roleu Stables in another Geneseo hosted show on Nov. 3 and will compete at Cazenovia on Nov. 4.
