Jackson has Career-Best Finish at UNH Carnival
Jan. 27: St. Lawrence University senior Teo Jackson recorded a new collegiate best finish on Friday, leading the Saints Nordic ski team in the classic sprint races at the 2012 UNH Carnival in Jackson, NH.
Jackson was the top St. Lawrence finisher with a career-best 15th place finish, leading the men's team to sixth place in the event. The Gorham, NH native joined sophomore Eric Lustgarten in the heats of the classic sprints, but failed to move on to the A or B finals (top-10). Senior Caroline Carpenter paced the women's team in 22nd place
Lustgarten's prelim time earned him 19th position, and though it wasn't his best sprint race, it is the Burlington, VT native's best collegiate showing.
"Teo had an excellent race today, and though this wasn't Caroline's forte, she continued to represent St. Lawrence well," said head coach Ethan Townsend. "I think both Eric and Leah (Hart) expected more in this event, but it just wasn't their day in the heats."
Junior Connor Hunt joined Jackson and Lustgarten in the scoring for the men in 43rd place. First-year students Austin Hart and Will Frielinghaus finished in 46th and 47th places, respectively, followed by senior Adam Terko (55th) and rookie Austin Meng (63rd).
Meanwhile, Carpenter was the top Saint skier for the women's Nordic team for the third straight race to open 2012. Her preliminary time of 4:23.02 earned her a spot in the heats, though she did not advance to finals either.
Leah Hart (48th) and first-year student Kate Mulcahy (60th) capped the team scoring for St. Lawrence, good for 10th place overall. Junior Kelsey Nichols (62nd) also raced for the Scarlet and Brown.
Dartmouth College swept both the team and individual titles on Friday, with the men winning with 141.0 points and the women with 133.0. Sam Tarling won the men's race for the Big Green, while Sophie Caldwell claimed the women's prize.
Both St. Lawrence Nordic teams will compete again tomorrow, Saturday, January 28 in the freestyle races at the UNH Carnival.
