Wetherell’s Career-Best Showing Paces Saints at Williams

Feb. 19: St. Lawrence University senior Zach Wetherell posted a career-best finish on Friday in the Men's 10K Classic at the 2010 Williams Carnival. The Hinsdale, MA native's fifth place showing led the Saints' men's Nordic team to fourth place in the event.
Wetherell raced in 29:31.9 to earn 39.0 points for the Saints, and was followed in sixth position by classmate Ben Knowles. Knowles, who racked up a runner-up finish last weekend, clocked in at 29:53.0.
Rounding out the scoring for the Scarlet and Brown in the men's 10K Classic was senior Eric Wolcott, who, despite suffering a fall, managed to finish in 21st place. The Concord, NH native brought the team's three-man total to 97.0 points, only even shy of Middlebury for a podium finish.
Also competing for St. Lawrence in the men's race on Friday were sophomore Adam Terko (45th) and juniors Steven Vargo (46th) and Kyle Marvinney (53rd).
Meanwhile, sophomore Caroline Carpenter was the top finisher for the Saints in the Women's 5K Classic on Friday. The Shelburne, VT native raced in 17:57.7 to finish in 27th position overall.
Joining the scoring for St. Lawrence were sophomore Leah Hart and senior Johannah Ludington. Hart was 34th while Ludington followed in 44th, landing the team in ninth place with 42.0 total points.
Junior Sophie Allen (49th), first-year student Kelsey Nichols (53rd) and junior Elizabeth Hayden (60th) rounded out the women's team's roster in the women's 5K Classic.
Dartmouth College swept the team events on Friday, as the women earned 135.0 points and the men 112.0. Ida Sargent helped the Big Green's women's squad to victory with an individual win of her own in 15:37.7, while UVM's Franz Bernstein was victorious in the men's event in 28:40.9.
Both of the St. Lawrence Nordic teams will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday, February 20 in the freestyle events at the Williams Carnival.
