Saints’ Senior Trio Finishes Third in Men’s 3x5 Free Relay

Feb. 13: The St. Lawrence University men's Nordic ski team's senior trio of Zach Wetherell, Ben Knowles and Eric Wolcott finished in third place on Saturday in the Men's 3x5 Freestyle Relay at the 2010 Dartmouth Carnival in Stowe, VT. 

Saturday marked the third consecutive podium finish for the men's team, which finished second in the Classic race on Friday.  Wetherell skied the first leg of the relay in 13:10.7, while Knowles followed in the middle portion in 13:41.3.  Wolcott then raced in the anchor position in 12:52.3, helping St. Lawrence finish in third place out of 19 relay teams with a combined time of 39:44.3.

St. Lawrence was also represented by the team of juniors Steven Vargo and Kyle Marvinney and sophomore Adam Terko.  The trio finished in 14th position in 42:20.6.

Meanwhile, the top St. Lawrence women's team clocked in at 49:06.1 to finish in 11th position out of 22 relay squads.  Sophomore Caroline Carpenter handled the opening leg of the Women's 3x5 Free Relay in 16:07.7, while classmate Leah Hart followed in 16:41.3.  Senior Johannah Ludington then anchored the team in 16:17.1 for a team time of 49:06.1.

The Saints' second team was comprised of first-year student Kelsey Nichols and juniors Hannah James and Sophie Allen.  The trio finished in 18th place in 52:04.2.

Dartmouth's women's team, comprised of Rosie Brennan, Sophie Caldwell and Ida Sargent raced in 45:16.5 to earn the victory.  Meanwhile, Middlebury's top team of Graham Egan, Dylan Grald and Patrick Johnson captured the men's race in 38:53.4.

Both St. Lawrence Nordic teams will be in action again next weekend at the 2010 Williams Carnival on Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20.
