Scott Wins High Jump, Saints 4th at NYSCTC Championships

Feb. 23: Mike Scott won the high jump for St. Lawrence University's lone championship at the 2013 New York State Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championship at Ithaca College and the Saint men finished fourth as a team in a scoring race which was tight among five teams right down to the wire.
Host Ithaca won the meet with 139.5 points, joining its women's team in a sweep of the team titles, while RPI was second with 134.5, RIT third with 126, the Saints fourth with 117.5 and Rochester fifth with 113.5 in a 12-team field.
Scott cleared 1.98 meters to win the high jump with teammate Brian Kane finishing third at 1.93 meters. The Saints also had two seconds in Saturday field event competition as Jamal Samaroo followed up his second place finish in the long jump on Friday with a 13.82 meter series to finish second in the triple jump and senior A.J. Blaisdell threw 15.98 meters to finish second in the 35-pound weight throw.
In track competition, freshman Spencer Patterson was second in the mile in 4:15.56 with Zach Nelson fourth and Wes Kirui eighth, Jake Fredericks was second in the 60 hurdles in 8.32 seconds and Nick Crawford was second in the 400 in 50.12 seconds.
The Ogdensburg trio of Fredericks, Andy Fisher and Crawford joined Old Forge native Leif Frymire to finish third in 3:26.68 in the 4x400 and Fisher added an eighth in the 200 while Frymire scored in the 500 with a seventh place finish.
Omaru Kabia was third in 7.14 seconds in the 60 meters, Jon Eng was fourth and Corey Hahnl was seventh in the 1000 meters, Scott Smolensky finished fourth in the 3,000 meters and the 4x800 relay team of Nelson, Hahnl, Kirui and Eng finished fifth in 8:11.76.
