Saints Impressive In Win at Springfield

Jan. 26: St. Lawrence University's men's indoor track and field team had four individual champions and won two relays to record an impressive team victory in the 11-team Springfield Invitational on Saturday.
The Saints finished with 125 points with Amherst College second with 76 and RPI third with 72.
"Running against some teams from outside of New York State and doing as well as we did is a good confidence booster for us heading toward the Liberty League Championships," said Saint coach John Newman.
One of the outstanding individual performances of the day was turned in by Brian Kane, who won the high jump and the triple jump at nearly the same time and added a third in the long jump. He was alternating tries between the high jump and triple jump and won the high jump at 1.98 meters with teammate Mike Scott second and won the triple jump with a 13.17 meter series with Jamal Samaroo second and Vinnie Maniscalco finishing fourth.
Omaru Kabia won the 60 meters in 7.26 seconds with Samaroo fifth and the two ran on the winning 4x200 relay team along with Andy Fisher and Maniscalco. Scott Smolensky came from behind to win the 1000 in 2:37.6 after placing fifth in the mile for the other Saint individual win and the 4x800 relay team of Spencer Patterson, Adam Bankert, Cory Hahnl and Wesley Kirui won in 8:22.94.
Fisher was second in 23.52 seconds in the 200 with Maniscalco finishing third while Leif Frymire was fifth in the 400. Patterson finished fourth in the mile, Fredericks was sixth in the hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Frymire, Trevor Bibb, Josh Martell and Fredericks finished sixth.
Adrian Wilson was second in the long jump at 6.28 meters with Kane third and Maniscalco sixth and Scott Kasson and A.J. Blaisdell finished fifth in the shot and weight throw respectively.
