Saints Have Strong Showing in Holiday Relays

Dec. 8: St. Lawrence University's men's indoor track and field team had a big day both on the track and in the field events Saturday, winning four individual races and two relays plus four field events as the Saints hosted the 2012 Saint Holiday Relays at the Newell Field House.


Scott Smolensky won the mile, Leif Frymire the 400, Brendan Courneene the 5000 and Jake Fredericks the 60 hurdles for the individual race wins while the team of Jamal Samaroo, Omaru Kabia, Fredericks and Andy Fisher won the 4x200 relay and Smolensky, Frymire, Adam Bankert and Spencer Patterson won the distance medley relay.

Smolenky ran 4:29. 46 in the mile with Patterson a solid second and they joined Bankert and Frymire to run 11:01.15 in the DMR. Frymire ran 55.02 in the 400 with Fredericks second and Christopher Payton third while Courneene led a Saint sweep of the top six in the 5000 in 15:41.39 with Jon Eng second and Trevor Bibb third. Fredericks ran 8.77 to win the hurdles with Nick Crawford second.

In field event competition, Mike Scott tied the meet record with a win at 1.93 meters in the high jump while Connor Rockford won the pole vault at 4.10 meters with Tyler Breckenridge finishing second. A.J. Blaisdell won the weight throw with at 13.13 meter throw and Payton won the triple jump with a 12.64 meter series with Brian Kane second.

Kabia was second and Samaroo third in the 60 meter dash while Corey Hahnl was second in the 800 and Fisher second in the 200. The Saint 4x400 relay of Payton, Crawford, Rockhill and Joe Keil was second in 3:37.27

Scott Kasson was second in the shot put and third in the weight while Payton added a third in the long jump.
The Saints are now off for exams and the holidays and will resume competition at the Ottawa Super Saturday meet on Jan. 12.
