Saints Open Indoor Season with Can-Am Challenge

Dec. 1: Freshman Scott Kasson was a double winner in the throws in his first collegiate meet as St. Lawrence University's men's track and field team opened the 2012-13 indoor season with competition in the Can-Am Challenge at the Newell Field House on Saturday.
Kasson set a meet record in his first collegiate meet with a win in the shot put at 13.17 meters while sophomore Shawn Lillie was second with a 12.46 meter throw. Kasson came back to win the weight throw with a 10.03 meter mark with Bryce DeBoer second and Michael Theobald third.
Mike Scott also set a meet record with a 1.96 meter jump to win the high jump, leading a strong Saint showing in that event. Brian Kane was second at 1.88 meters while rookies Nicholas Crawford and Connor Rockhill tied for third at 1.83 meters. Chris Payton won the long jump with a 6.00 meter throw with Kane finishing third and scoring second. Rockhill added a third place finish in the pole vault.
On the track, Jon Eng finished second and scored first in the 3000, running 8:59.01, Jake Fredericks was second in the 60 hurdles in 8.51 seconds while Andy Fisher added a second place finish in 36.82 and Andrew Nolan was fifth in 37.47 in the 300 meters. Corey Hahnl was third in the mile in 4:35.58 while Josiah Bartlett was fourth in the 500 and Adam Bankert was fourth in the 1000.
The Saint 4x400 relay team of Leif Frymire, Fredericks, Payton and Eng finished second in 3:39.36 while the 4x200 team of Jamal Samaroo, Fisher, Alimamy Kabia and Nolan was second in 1:35.75.
