Saints 4-1 After Sweep of Purple Knights

March 3: The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team swept division II opponent St. Michael's College 9-0 Sunday in the Newell Field House. The Saints improve to 4-1 on the season and will travel to Orlando, FL for three matches over the University's spring break next week. The Purple Knights fall to 1-3.
The Saints took a 3-0 lead after doubles and then cruised to the 9-0 victory with impressive wins in singles. At one, senior co-captain Michael Hayden and first-year student Paul Barrett teamed up to outlast Eric Parziale and Nick Bosco, 8-5. Sophomore John Megas and first-year student Robert Schmitz didn't allow a game, earning an 8-0 over Chris Moskal and Sam Laves at two. Sophomore Thomas Luchars and first-year student Rhonny Rosario rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-3 victory over Michael Matczak and Billy Wood at three.
In singles play, the Purple Knights put up a battle in the first set of the one and two matches, but were overpowered by the Saints. Hayden beat Parzaile at one (7-5, 6-0) and Megas won over Bosco at two (7-5, 6-2).
The Saints continued to post impressive victories through the line-up, with Schmitz defeating Wood at three (6-1, 6-2), Rosario defeating Moskal at four (6-2, 6-2), and Barrett defeating Charlie Merry at five (6-0, 6-3). Senior co-captain Tom Timpone rounded out the Saints' scoring with a victory over Lyle Nichols at six. Timpone won the first set 6-2, and was up 3-0 in the second set, when Nichols retired due to injury.
The Saints will look to continue their hot start in Florida when they face The College of New Jersey, Roger Williams and Albion.
