Three Saints Invited to Play in USILA North-South Game
May 18: Three members of the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team have been invited to participate in the annual USILA North-South Senior All-Star game. Peter Carroll, Alex Slauson and Carl Festa will suit up for the Division III North Team on Friday, May 22 at Harvard Stadium in Boston, MA.
St. Lawrence will have three players participating in the All-Star game for the second time in three years, as J.J. Hearty, Brian Crowley and Brendan Lynch earned spots in 2007.
"Being invited to participate in the North-South game is a real honor, as student-athletes get to play alongside their most talented fellow seniors in the nation," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney. "I'm excited for the guys to have this opportunity."
All three St. Lawrence players also earned 2009 New York State All-Star honors. Carroll was a First Team selection at attack while Slauson, the conference's Player of the Year, was a First Team midfielder. Festa, meanwhile, was named to the New York State Second Team defensive corps.
Senior P.J. Santora and junior Trevor Scoon were also honored by the state, as they each earned slots on the Second Team. Santora landed on the squad as a short stick specialist while Scoon joined Festa on the defensive unit.
"I think all five of our players that earned recognition from the state deserve the credit they've received," added Coach Mahoney. "Each of them was intricate in our success again this season, and helped us reach the NCAA Tournament's Second Round for the fourth straight year."
