Saint Seniors Honored at Annual Banquet

Travis Vermeulen was named 2009-10 Saint MVP

The Class of 2010 dominated the awards at the annual Friends of St. Lawrence Hockey Recognition banquet, held at The Club in downtown Canton on Saturday night.

Senior captain Travis Vermeulen, who led the Saints in scoring, was a third-team All ECAC selection and was the ECAC's Best Defensive Forward Award winner was named Most Valuable Player and shared the Brian P. Doyle Memorial Trophy for leadership with his fellow captain Derek Keller, a third team All ECAC defenseman and a finalist for Best Defensive Defenseman. Keller was also named the winner of the Peter McGeough Award as the outstanding defenseman on the 2009-10 Saint team.

Senior goaltender Kain Tisi was named the winner of the Paul J. Flanagan Most Improved Player Award after an outstanding senior season in which he was a three-time ECAC Goaltender of the Week in the month of January. Senior goalie Alex Petizian and forwards Alex Curran and Mike McKenzie shared the Bernie McKinnon Coaches Award while senior forward Jeremiah Cunningham was the winner of the Brian McFarlane Award for academic and athletic accomplishment. Senior Jeff Caister was named the winner of the Terry Slater Perseverance Award for his ability to adapt to a new team and new school after his former institution, Wayne State, dropped the sport.

Seniors Pat Kelleher and Drew Weaver were selected by the Friends of St. Lawrence Hockey as the winners of the Dr. James S. Street Seventh Player Award while George Hughes was named the Mike Pelletier-Richie Stewart Rookie of the Year award winner.

 Aaron Bogosian and Jared Keller were selected as Saint captains for 2010-11 while Sean Flanagan and Jake Drewiske were named as assistant captains.
