Men's ECAC Hockey Championship Returns To Lake Placid

1980 Rink and Herb Brooks Arena will host the 2014 ECAC Men's Hockey Championship

Aug. 14: ECAC Hockey announced a return to Lake Placid for its championship tournament beginning with the 2014 season at a press conference in Lake Placid on Tuesday.

The tournament, which will complete a three-year run in Atlantic City in March, will return to Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center in March of 2014. Lake Placid, Albany and Providence were all in the running as tournament hosts with Lake Placid prevailing in the vote of ECAC Hockey administrators. Lake Placid hosted the ECAC Championships from 1993-2002 before that event moved to Albany.

"St. Lawrence is thrilled that the ECAC will return its hockey championship to Lake Placid in 2014," said Director of Athletics Margie Strait. "The atmosphere and passion of the Olympic village will again bring great energy to our championship tournament.

"We have had a continuing great relationship with Lake Placid and ORDA. St. Lawrence has played a rivalry game with Clarkson at the Herb Brooks Arena in each of the last two years and the University has been a co-host with ORDA for the 1984 and 1988 men's NCAA Frozen Four, the 2007 women's Frozen Four and the 1982 NCAA Ski Championships. We have also conducted our "home" ski carnival at Lake Placid on a regular basis. I know our active alumni group in Lake Placid will be very excited for the return of ECAC hockey."

"Our coaching staff is very pleased with the announcement that ECAC Championship hockey will return to Lake Placid in 2014," said St. Lawrence head coach Greg Carvel. "St. Lawrence has played some of the biggest games in its program history in Lake Placid and the return of the ECAC tournament just adds to our aspirations to become a championship team. Lake Placid has provided a great experience for our players and our fans in the past and we plan to be part of that experience again."

The Saints open their 2012-13 men's hockey season with an exhibition game at Appleton Arena against Carleton College on Saturday, Oct. 6.
