2011-12: Gunnar Hughes had a solid rookie campaign for the Saints, playing in 34 of 36 games and scoring four goals to go with six assists. Two of his four goals were game winners...the home victory over Harvard and in game one against Minnesota State. The Harvard goal was his first colleigate goal. He played in 32 straight after sitting out the second weekend of hte year. He had a trio of two point games.
The brother of Saint defenseman George Hughes, Gunnar comes to the Saint program after spending last season playing for the Waterloo Blackhawks in the USHL. Gunnar, a 6-1, 200 pound forward, had 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 57 games for the Blackhawks, scoring five shorthanded goals and a pair of game winners. He was the Rookie of the Year for the Blackhawks.Gunnar attended the Salisbury School and intends to major in economics at St. Lawrence.
