April 25:  The St. Lawrence University men's crew team had a solid showing at the Liberty League Championships Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY, earning two second place finishes in the varsity eight and novice eight events.

The Saints top eight finished second behind a very fast Hobart crew with a time of 6:34.1.  The Statesmen won the even in 6:15.0, while Vassar finished third with a time of 6:40.8 and Union took fourth in 6:49.1.  Sophomore Will Schrade stroke the Saints 1V,while sophomore Jamie Cook sat seven seat, sophomore Justin Painter sat six seat, sophomore Brent Underwood sat five seat, junior Dave MacClaren sat four seat, junior Cameron West sat three seat, sophomore Griffin Green sat two seat, and junior Nick Blum sat bow.  Junior Alyssa Halton coxed the Saints varsity eight.

Although the Saints novice eight lost its first race of the season, the boat battled with Hobart, only losing by half a boat length.  Hobart finished first with a time of 6:41.2, while St. Lawrence took second in 6:44.9.  The saints freshman eight was stroked by Jake Morse, while Will Maloney sat seven seat, Christian Bergbauer sat six seat, Rob Meacham sat five seat, Will Mahoney sat four seat, Francis Stripp sat three seat, Sam Baker sat two seat, and Jeff Pond sat bow.  Audrey Strasenburgh coxed the boat.

"Both crews had pretty good rows Saturday," St. Lawrence Head Coach George Repicky said.  "Hobart is fast, but I think that our freshman eight will give them a battle at New York States next weekend.  The varsity eight also has a good shot of making grand finals at States for the first time ever."

The Saints will be back in action next weekend, May 1-2 when they compete in the New York State Championships in Binghampton, NY.
