Schrade Earns Silver in Men’s Single Event as Saints Close 2009 Fall Season

Sophomore Will Schrade finished second in the men's single event Sunday.

Oct. 26:  The St. Lawrence University men's crew team completed their 2009 fall season Sunday at the Head of the Fish regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY with sophomore Will Schrade finishing second in the men's single event and the novice men's eight finishing sixth.

Schrade finished with a time of 13:59.98, behind J. Law Smith of Dawson. 

The Scarlet and Brown novice eight finished 6th out of 19 boats behind two Syracuse boats with a time of 11:59.27.    Only two athletes in this boat had previous rowing experience before coming to St. Lawrence.  Audrey Strasenburgh coxed the boat, while Evan McConnell sat stroke seat, Rob Meacham sat seven seat, Sam Baker sat six seat, Ryan Lee sat five seat, Luke Reed sat three seat, Walter Morrell sat two seat, and Francis Stripp sat bow.

Head Coach George Repicky said, "They rowed at a low stroke rate, swung together well, and looked very strong."

The Saints varsity eight finished 8th out of 17 boats with a time of 11:39.14.  Sophomore Mike Cianca coxed the boat, while sophomore Justin Painter sat stroke seat, sophomore Will Schrade sat seven, first-year Nick Hoffmann sat six seat, sophomore Brent Underwood sat five seat, sophomore Jamie Cook sat four seat, first-year Christian Bergbauer sat three seat, senior Brendan Kiniry sat two seat, and sophomore Johnny Williams sat bow.

The Scarlet and Brown also raced a novice four composed of sophomore coxswain Allison Webster, stroke Nick Hoffmann, three seat Christian Bergbauer, two seat Will Majoney, and bow seat Jake Morse.  The novice four finished fifth behind New York Maritime with a time of 13:29.30.

The Head of the Fish also allows alumni to compete and following in St. Lawrence tradition, the Saints entered an alumni eight boat.  They finished 17th in the collegiate eight race with a time of 13:26.08.

The Saints will head indoors for the winter season to prepare for the competitive 2010 spring campaign.
