Saints Look For Big 2nd Day at ECAC Championships

St. Lawrence University's men's track and field team is 13th after first day competition at the ECAC Indoor Championships being held at Smith College in Massachusetts.
The Saints scored seven of their nine points as Seth Jackson and John Johnston finished fifth and sixth in the 5000 meters, finishing just .04 seconds apart. Jackson ran 15:11.20 and Johnston 15:11.24. Sophomore Justin Spalik scored the other two points for the Saints with a seventh place finish in the pentathlon, earning 3235 points in the five-event competition.
The Saint Distance Medley Relay team, which was Liberty League champion and second in the NYSCTC championships and had the sixth best seed time was disqualified in Friday's race. The team was disqualified for a lane violation on the opening leg. The team of Terrence Fox, Brad Williams, Andrew Goodwin and Dan Ramsey ran a time of 10:02.19 which would have been a SLU record and a likely trip to the NCAA's before the disqualification was assessed. The Saint 4x200 team finished 11th in 1:33.35.
The Saints should pick up additional points in Saturday's day two of competition with Dan Ramsey and NYSCTC champion Andrew Goodwin running in the mile, Jackson running the 3000 where he has the fourth best seed time in the field and Eric Jones throwing the weight where he has the best mark thus far this season in the field.
