Ramsey, Jones Lead Saints at Terrier Invitational

Junior Dan Ramsey just missed NCAA automatic qualification standards and was just nine seconds off the St. Lawrence record in the 5000 meter run at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on Saturday. Ramsey and Eric Jones had the top performances for the Saint men in the meet which featured top Division I and club team competitors in addition to Division II and III teams from throughout the Northeast.
Ramsey won his heat with a time of 14:29.56, leading a field of 20 in one of four heats of the event. He finished 17th overall in the event. John Johnston was seventh in his heat, finishing 42nd overall, in 15:15.28 with Jeremy Beaudette running 15:19.58, Jacob Malcomb 15:25.50 and Seth Jackson 15:27.40. The meeet was run on a banked track and while Ramsey's time was faster than the NCAA automatic standard, it coverted to a time just 3 seconds off the automatic mark on a flat track.
Jones finished third in the weight throw with a best of 17.61 meters (57-9.5) for the top field performance for the Saints. Jones, who has a best thus far this season of 17.86 meters, was third among 46 competitors. David Kolacz of Keene State won the competition with a throw of 18.56 meters.
Chris Pugliano had a seventh place finish in the 500 meters and Justin Spalik finished tenth overall in the 55 meter hurdles among other highlights for Saint performers at the meet.
Pugliano won his section of the 500, running 1:05.94 which was the best time for a Division III competitor. His time is just .94 off the hand-timed SLU record of 65.0 set by Kirk Dixon in 1985. Spalik ran 8.13 in the hurdles in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals and ran 8.15 in the finals for tenth place.
Terrance Fox was second in his section of the 1000 in 2:31.15 and finished 16th overall in a field of 45. Michael Fox was 24th in 2:34.69 and Josh LeBlanc finished 31st overall in 2:39.40. Andrew Goodwin was 5th in his section of the mile and 53rd overall in 4:20.89 while Andy Fisher was second in his second of the 200 in 23.17 and 47th overall while Leif Frymire was second in his second of the 200 in 23.79 and 75th out of 105 competitors. Will Mosenthal ran 1:59.50 in the 800 and finished 43rd of 86 runners while Jordan Garfinkle ran 2:02.67 and was 64th. Geoff Millard finished fourth in his section of the 3000, running 8:50.03 and was 52nd in a field of 103 runners.The Saint Distance Medley Relay team of Goodwin, Pugliano, Mike Fox and Terrance Fox ran 10:12.25 and finished sixth out of 14 teams.
In field competition, Brad Williams finished eighth in the pole vault, clearing 3.96 meters while Sean Scott was 20th with a 6.09 meter jump and Spalik was 21st with a 5.98 meter jump in the long jump. Scott finished second in his section and was 11th overall in the triple jump with a 12.59 meter (41-3.75) performance.
