Ramsey Wins Two Events in Invitational

Junior Dan Ramsey won  both the mile and the 1000 meters and solid depth helped St. Lawrence University's men's indoor track and field team finish second to the University of Ottawa at the St. Lawrence Invitational in the Newell Field House Saturday afternoon.

The meet included 14 collegiate teams and also included non-scoring runners from the Ottawa Lions, Cirrus Track Club and several unattached entries in one of the largest meets held in the SLU facility. The University of Ottawa finished with 133 points with SLU second with 104 points and Brockport third among 12 scoring teams in the men's competition.

Ramsey set the meet record in the mile, winning in 4:16.99, missing NCAA provisional qualification by less than a second. He came back later in the day to win the 1000 in 2:33.12 with Josh LeBlanc third in 2:35.8 and Michael Fox fourth in 2:37.54.

Other top finishes for the Saints incuded a second by Seth Jackson in the 3000 meters in 8:47.88 with John Johnston third and Jeremy Beaudette fifth. Justin Spalik finished third in the 55 meter hurdles while Chris Pugliano was third in the 400 meters in 51.92 seconds.

Eric Jones finished third, meeting NCAA provisional qualifying in the weight throw with a 17.29 meter throw (56-8.75) and the Saints were second in the Distance Medley Relay with a team of Josh LeBlanc, Leif Frymire, Terrance Fox and Michael Fox running 10:57.15. The 4x200 relay team of Brad Williams, Sean Scott, Andy Fisher and Puglianto finished third in 1:35.33.

Other scoring performances for the Saints included a sixth by Mike Scott in the high jump, a fifth by Todd Lavigne in the 5000 meters, a fourth by Andrew Goodwin in the mile and a fourth by Frymire in the 400. Terrance Fox was fifth in the 500, Brad Williams fifth in the pole vault and Will Mosenthal finished fifth in the 800. Sean Scott added a sixth in the long jump.
