Navy Tops Saints 6-3 in Hoehn Consolations

St. Lawrence University's men's squash team lost to Navy 6-3 in the Hoehn Cup consolation semifinals and will play Brown in the 15-16 playoff Sunday at 3 p.m. to conclude competition in the College Squash Association team nationals tournament in New Haven.

Six of nine matches against the 13th-ranked Midshipmen went beyond three games in a highly competitive match for the Saints.

Navy's Nils Mattson defeated Scott Phillips at one 3-1, winning games one and two 11-2 and 11-9 before Phillips won 11-6 in game three. Mattson closed out the match with a 11-6 win in game four.

Amay Merchant won for the Saints in match two, beating Allan Lutz 3-2. Merchant won the first game 11-7, but lost games two and three 11-9 and 12-10 before coming back with 11-9 and 11-7 wins to close it out.

Navy took matches at three, four and five with Ben Mantica beating Alex Dodge 3-0 at three, Justin Langin winning 3-1 against Jermaine Xaba at four and  Brad Seidel beating Tyler Stout 3-1 at five,.

Nick Pearson won 3-0 at six, beating William Abrams 13-11, 11-8 and 12-10. Navy's Hunter Bouchard beat Mike Badali 3-0 at seven, but the Saints' Thoma Kraft prevailed 3-1 over Daniel Koenig at eight, bouncing back from a 11-7 first game loss to win 11-9, 11-5, 11-8. Navy's John Richey beat Russell Woeltz 3-1 at nine to complete the match.
