Saints Impressive in Wins Over Hamilton and UVM

Jan. 30: The St. Lawrence University men's squash team delivered back-to-back impressive performances on Saturday afternoon at the Robie Squash Courts in Canton, NY.  The Saints swept Hamilton College 9-0 before handing the University of Vermont an 8-1 defeat.

The victories move the Scarlet and Brown to 11-7 on the 2009-10 season.

The Saints lost only two games in the nine matches against Hamilton in the first contest of the afternoon, with seven of the nine players earning 3-0 wins.  The home squad then won matches No. 2-9 against UVM to earn a thorough victory.

Sophomores Michael Badali and Thomas Kraft and first-year student Roger Miller were each dual-winners for St. Lawrence on Saturday.  Badali won at No. 6 against Harry Keeshan of Hamilton, 3-1, then swept Ali Sadeghi of UVM 11-0, 11-2, 11-3.  Kraft won each of his matches 3-0 at No. 7 versus Hamilton's Ronald German and No. 3 against Tobias Greene of UVM, while Miller held off Hamilton's Brett Morrell 3-1 before being Will Ryales of UVM 11-0, 11-0, 11-0.

Other winners against the Continentals were Scott Phillips (No. 1), Amay Merchant (No. 2), Alex Dodge (No. 3), Jermaine Xaba (No. 4), Tyler Stout (No. 5) and Ben Ross (No. 9).

Also earning wins for St. Lawrence against Vermont were Thomas Whelan (No. 5), D.J. Brinkworth (No. 6), Pete Montesano (No. 7), Cooper Babcock (No. 8) and Campbell Smith (No. 9).

The Saints will be in action again on Saturday, February 6 when they face Cornell and Franklin and Marshall.
