Gorman, DeMello Earn All Liberty League

Sophomore Brendan Gorman earned first team honors and freshman Sam DeMello was named to the second team as the 2009 Liberty League men's soccer all stars were announced Nov. 5.
Gorman led the Liberty League in scoring, both overall and in league play, scoring 12 goals and assisting on six others for 30 points overall and scoring four times and assisting on three for 11 points in league play. He was 2008 Liberty League Rookie of the Year and a second-team All Liberty League selection.
DeMello, a midfielder, was the second leading scorer for the Saints with seven goals, four of them in league play. His seven goals tied for fifth among all Liberty League players.
A trio of Saints were accorded honorable mention in voting by the league's coaches.
Sophomore Dan Marvin, who scored four goals and assisted on four others, senior midfielder Joey Mattina, who scored three goals and assisted on four others, and junior captain James Steward, who played the entire season with a torn ACL and had a goal and five assists in addition to outstanding defensive play in the middle of the field, were on the honorable mention list.
Additionally, a trio of Saints earned Liberty League All Academic honors. Senior midfielder Reed Carr, Gorman and sophomore Dan Casserly were named All Academic which requires a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and sophomore or higher academic standing.
