Saints Remain Unbeaten, Top Pilgrims 9-6
Mar. 16: The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten on Friday night, as Dave Hovey, Kyle Jacobsen and Pierson Fowler each scored two goals en route to a 9-6 win over New England College in Virginia Beach, VA.
The Saints, now 4-0 on the 2012 season, had to overcome two weather delays against the Pilgrims, who were led by James Putney's three goals.
"It was a nice way to wrap up a successful spring trip. I was happy with the way the guys maintained their focus despite the choppiness of the game due to weather delays," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "We look forward to a great week of preparation as we kick off our Liberty League schedule next weekend, which looks as tough as advertised."
The Saints held a 4-1 lead over New England after the first quarter, but the Pilgrims battled back to within a goal at 5-4 at halftime. St. Lawrence scored the only goal of the third period to take a 6-4 advantage into the fourth quarter, which the Scarlet and Brown won by a 3-2 margin.
Peter Carpenter, Zach Sloan and Justin Ingram each added a goal for St. Lawrence. Hovey, Jacobsen, Fowler, Drake Paul and Dave Schoettler each had assists in the win.
Junior Jeff Goeke made seven saves in the first half, while Jack Nuland made five saves in relief throughout the second half.
St. Lawrence will put its unblemished record on the line next Saturday, March 24 when the Saints host Skidmore College at 1:00pm at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton, NY.
