Scoon Named Pre-Season All-American, Saints are #16 Entering 2010

Jan. 7: St. Lawrence University senior defenseman Trevor Scoon has been named a Division III Pre-Season First Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Meanwhile, Scoon will anchor a Saints' team that enters the 2010 season ranked #16 in the nation.
Scoon was named a USILA All-America selection (honorable mention) and to the Liberty League's First Team defense in his junior campaign. The New Canaan, CT native, who was often matched up against opponents' top offensive players, scooped up a career-high 51 ground balls and caused 34 turnovers. He was also a First Team Liberty League choice in his sophomore year.
"Trevor (Scoon) has been one of our best defensive players during the last two seasons, and with the experience he's gained, we expect him to have another solid year in 2010," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney, the reigning Liberty League Coach of the Year.
St. Lawrence finished the 2009 season with a 13-4 overall record after losing in the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the fourth straight season. Though the team enters the year ranked 16th in the country, a very young squad will face a trying schedule both in and out of conference.
"We lost 11 players to graduation including a trio of All-Americans and our starting goaltender," said Coach Mahoney, whose team has won 32 consecutive Liberty League games. "This season will offer a chance for several young, talented players to step to the forefront alongside our corps of veterans."
St. Lawrence will open the 2010 schedule at No. 12 Haverford on March 6. The Saints will also face two other nationally-ranked squads this season, including pre-season No. 19 Nazareth on March 27 and against the defending national champion, No. 1 Cortland State, at North Country Field on April 21.
