Saints Finish 8th in 16-Team Williams Invitational

Ben von Reyn shot rounds of 77 and 73 to lead the Saints at Williams
St. Lawrence University's men's golf team bounced back from a opening round which left them tenth in the standings with a solid 299 on Sunday to finish eighth in the 16-team Williams Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club on Sunday.

The Saints shot 312 in Saturday's opening round in which the top four of five scores count toward the team total. All four Saint scorers were in the 70s on the 6432-yard, par-70 course on Sunday.

Ben von Reyn led the Saints with a 77-73-150 for the two rounds and finished tied for 21st in a 86-player field. Rookie John Harris shot 79 on Saturday and came back with a two-over 72 on Sunday, the best round of the weekend fo r Saint player, and finished tied for 24th with a 151 total, while sophomore Ren O'Connor shot rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152 total and was tied for 29th.

Sophomore Adrian Bouthot was the fourth Saint scorer on Saturday with a 79 and shot 83 on Sunday to finish at 162, tied for 64th while rookie Jeff Duggan shot 82 on Saturday and came back with a 79 on Sunday to finish at 161, tied for 60th.

Host Williams won the event with rounds of 288 and 282 for a 570 total with Salem State second at 580, Babson third at 586 and NYU fourth at 587. The Saints were three strokes behind seventh place Amherst and nine in back of sixth place Middlebury.

 

The Saint men's team will host the Liberty League Championships at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course Saturday and Sunday with competition beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The Saints will be joined by Skidmore, Rochester, Rensselaer, Hobart, Clarkson and Merchant Marine in the 36-hole event.
