Ramsey Paces Saints to Fifth Place at 2009 Atlantic Regional

Nov. 14: St. Lawrence University junior captain Dan Ramsey finished in 5th position overall on Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Atlantic Regional race at Letchworth State Park. The Essex Junction, VT native's finish led the Saints to fifth in the team standings as well, as the Scarlet and Brown are officially eligible for an at-large bid into next weekend's NCAA Championship race.
The top two teams from Saturday's race, team champion Cortland State (49 points) and runner-up Geneseo State (64 points) earn automatic bids into the national title race while NYU (79), RIT (147) and St. Lawrence (150) are eligible for consideration towards an at-large spot. The Saints were awarded an at-large bid into last year's NCAA race after a 4th place showing at Regionals.
Ramsey earned fifth overall behind a time of 25:20 and earned All-Region honors alongside teammates Jeremy Mwenda (25th, 25:51) and Jacob Malcomb (35th, 26:15).
Sophomore John Johnston picked up a 42nd place finish in 26:19, while senior co-captain Terrence Fox rounded out the squad's scoring one spot back in 43rd place (26:20). Seniors Jeremy Beaudette (49th, 26:29) and Geoff Millard (26:31) rounded out the Saints' line-up on Saturday.
"Our pack-running was once again pretty solid today," said St. Lawrence head coach John Newman. "There was just over a minute of difference between Dan (Ramsey) and Geoff (Millard), and I thought we ran pretty well as a team."
The Saints will learn their NCAA Championship fate tomorrow, Sunday, November 15th as the selection committee reveals the Division III field at 3:00pm.
