No. 14 Saints Capture 2009 Saratoga Invitational Title

Oct. 31: The St. Lawrence University men's cross country team, ranked 14th in the national polls, continued its winning ways on Saturday as the Saints captured the 2009 Saratoga Invitational hosted by Rensselaer. The Saints finished with 29 points to win the event ahead of RIT, while junior captain Dan Ramsey earned the individual crown.
The victory was the third straight for the Saints, who finished 17 points clear of the Tigers to earn the team title.
"The Saratoga Invitational is another solid test for our team before the Regional championships in two weeks," said St. Lawrence head coach John Newman. Our upperclassmen continue to show tremendous leadership on the trail as we're in the mix for an NCAA Championship berth."
Ramsey won his fifth individual title of the season behind a time of 25:21. The Essex Junction, VT native was followed by junior teammate Jeremy Mwenda in 3rd place overall with a time of 25:55 to pace the Scarlet and Brown's line-up.
Seniors Geoff Millard and Jeremy Beaudette added clutch finishes for the Saints, as they earned 6th and 7th place respectively. Millard ran in 26:13 and was followed nine seconds later by Beaudette (26:22). Sophomore John Johnston (12th, 26:41) rounded out the team's scoring while senior captain Terrence Fox (15th, 26:46) earned a top-15 finish in the event which included 168 runners.
Sophomores Seth Jackson (19th, 27:02) and Andrew Goodwin (20th, 27:11) joined first-year student Sam Rakoc (21st, 27:13) in earning top-25 finishes.
Senior Todd Lavigne (30th, 27:37), sophomore Alex Calderwood (35th, 27:46), juniors Ian Schofield (38th, 27:49) and James Mayers (62nd, 28:44), senior Jordan Garfinkle (84th, 29:23) and junior Chris Funch also represented St. Lawrence in Saturday's Saratoga Invitational.
St. Lawrence will have next weekend off before returning to action at the 2009 NCAA Atlantic Regional race at Geneseo State on November 14th.
