Three Saints Earn Regional All-America Honors

Nov. 16: Three St. Lawrence University field hockey players have been named 2009 NFHCA Division III Regional All-Americas. Seniors Jennifer Stetson and Joss-Elyse Smith were named to the First Team, while Emily Riley was a Second Team selection.
"Our team had a very successful season and I'm incredibly proud of the representation for the Saints," Head St. Lawrence University field hockey coach Fran Grembowicz said. "Jen and Joss have been the anchors of our team defensively and offensively for the past few seasons. We will miss their presence and leadership on the field."
Stetson, a 2008 National All-America and three-time All-Conference first-team member, had the third highest point total for the Saints this season. She scored six goals and earned six assists for a total of 18 points. The Bristol, VT native was clutch in the defensive end for the Scarlet and Brown, leading her team by a large margin in defensive saves with seven.
Smith, a three-time Liberty League All-Conference honoree, had a standout 2009 season, leading the Saints in overall points with 35. The Chestertown, NY native racked up 15 goals and five assists for the Scarlet and Brown in her final season.
Stetson and Smith have been asked to compete in the 2009 NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star game. The game will be played this weekend, on Sunday, November 22 at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA at 9:30 am.
Finally, Riley, an All-Conference second team member, accumulated 12 points for the Saints in 2009 with four goals and four assists. The sophomore from Saratoga Springs, NY was named a Second-Team Regional All-America for the first time in her collegiate career after an impressive campaign in the midfield.
"Emily Riley made the adjustment to the center of the field this season," Coach Grembowicz said. "Her versatility as both an offense and defensive player in the midfield has made her well-deserving of this recognition."
With the success of these three individuals, the St. Lawrence University field hockey team was named co-champions of the Liberty League next to Hamilton and Skidmore. They rounded out their 2009 season with an impressive record of 12-5.
