Lebanon Valley Downs Saints 3-1
Sept. 15: Lebanon Valley College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and went on to a 3-1 win over St. Lawrence University in field hockey at William Smith on Saturday.
The Saints, playing without starters Carly Stine (injury) and Grace O'Neil (academic commitment), did snap a two game scoreless streak, but fell to 0-4 going into a Sunday game against Manhattanville, also at William Smith.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring just 1:12 into play as Megan Harris batted home a rebound of a shot by Kelsey Miller which was stopped by Saint goalie Brady Cooper, but the rebound went right to Harris for her first of the season. Miller then scored her first of the year from Lauren Brumbach 8:57 into the first half when she redirected Brumbach's shot from the top of the circle.
The Saints cut it to 2-1 with 12:14 left in the first half, converting on a penalty corner. Ashley Ferenczy put the ball into play and Courtney Cartier deflected Emma Berry's shot past goalie Chloe Baro, scoring her second of the season.
The Saints put on some offensive pressure early in the second half, but Lebanon Valley made it a 3-1 game with 10:23 to go when Brumbach scored her first of the year with a blast from the right slot to the far post.
Lebanon Valley outshot the Saints overall 17-7 and had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Cooper made five saves for the Saints while Baro had three saves for Lebanon Valley. Both teams had ten penalty corners in the game.
